Quaker Voices on Mental Health

Who are we?

Quaker Voices on Mental Health (QVoMH) is a Quaker Recognised Body. We are a national network of Quakers who have a concern for mental health and wellbeing.

We want to see mental health services reformed in ways that are true to Quaker testimonies and grounded in experience and action.

We believe this is central to our corporate Quaker witness.

The network offers safe opportunities for Friends to explore their own mental health, creativity and spirituality.

Friends can safely explore issues relating to mental illness, mental health and wellbeing, guided by Quaker testimonies to equality and truth and informed by the legacy of William Tuke (founder of The Retreat, York).

The purpose of the book is to bring before Friends the urgent need for a renewed focus on mental health service in the UK today. The book is a series of twelve chapters written by Friends for Friends, on different Quaker perspectives of mental health.

The aim is to raise awareness within the Society about current mental health issues and their relevance to us as Quakers today. All four hundred and thirty-nine Local Meetings in Britain Yearly Meeting have been sent a free copy.

I include it here as I think it also has a wider appeal to anyone concerned about our Mental Health Services today ( chapter 1 by Michael Wash )
